Like many special occassions, Halloween is suddenly much more fun now Caterpillar is around. He went trick or treating for the first time last year and loved it so we’re planning on going again. The difficulty this year is that Halloween falls on a Monday, a nursery/work Monday in our house, so it makes a lot more sense to stretch the celebrations across the whole of half term week.
Here are a few ideas, based on what we’ll be doing:
Visit Local Attractions
Keep an eye out around your local area for Halloween-themed activities for kids. We’re planning a visit to Marsh Farm this week for their Wizards & Witches Halloween Festival and we’re also visiting a Pumpkin Patch for the first time. Local shopping centres or community centres often have free or very reasonably-priced activities.
Spooky Play Doh Creations
Caterpillar is essentially addicted to Play Doh at the moment so why not theme the fun towards all things ghostly? Visit my Halloween Play Doh Pinterest board for some fab ideas we’re planning on trying.
Get Cozy With A Creepy Book
Did you catch my review yesterday of Hyde & Seek by Fiona Ross? This is a really fun read that’s both eery and amusing. There are lots of themed books this year to get you and your children in the spooky spirit.
Best Halloween Crafts
There are some awesome ideas out there, I’ve linked my favourites here:
- Paper Plate Spiders from I Heart Crafty Things
- Pumpkin Apple Stamps from Frugal Mom Eh?
- Spooky Noodles from Teaching Mama
- Toilet Roll Cats from Kids Activities Blog
KidzCreative Activity packs
We’ve been having a lot of fun with this Halloween activity pack from KidzCreative. We love activity packs because they are a great way of keeping Caterpillar entertained, he sees them as an exciting treat and they are really cheap so something you can easily keep in your cupboard for a rainy day or long journey. In addition to the activity book, this Halloween-themed pack contains two masks, colouring pencils, spooky tattoo, lollypop & cardboard bat to create. Packs like this would also be good party favours as an alternative to party bags.
I have two additional packs to give away too; one Nature Friends and one Dinosaur pack. Enter below for your chance to win both for your little ones.

Some lovely ideas there for things to do with little ones, almost makes me wish my girls were little again; I miss playdoh! I keep seeing the pumpkin patch idea, so I am going to look and see if we have any nearby as even a teen and tween would enjoy it! Have a fabulous half term with Caterpillar #SchoolsOut x
We love Halloween in our house so this post is brilliant!:)

What great ideas! I’m not very crafty annoyingly, something that my eldest gets very sad about. Going to try my hand at some pumpkin craving on Monday though! Wish us luck! Thanks so much for joining us. Hope to see you next time! #SchoolsOut.
