Any other time of year adverts are just a necessary evil, and if we can avoid them by using the modern day power of on demand viewing then all the better. However, at Christmas I actually enjoy them, and I love the contest between the big brands to give us the funniest, cutest or most heartwarming (or heart-wrenching!) offering.
This year has given us quite a crop already but this adorable ad from Vision Direct featuring Gizmo the pug definitely features near the top of my list.
First off, it’s got animals, and you’d have to have a heart of ice to resist these cuties. I didn’t think there was anything that could possibly make a pug cuter, but then putting some specs and a jumper on him took the adorable factor to another level.
Second, it’s a modern take on that age old cat vs dog rivalry. I love dogs but I adore cats and Cuddles is beautiful, even in her smugness.
Third, it’s got a great message. Christmas is about putting aside our differences and working together for the greater good. I’m a sucker for a wholesome message.
And finally, if Gizmo doesn’t make wearing glasses cool I don’t know what will. I’ve had pretty serious shortsightedness and astigmatism since I was a small child and hated my glasses as a teen, even now I’d rather wear my contacts. But I figure if a dog can rock them maybe I can too!
