At first glance, you might assume that technology has had a negative impact on the health of the human race as a whole; it’s led us to become more sedentary and to produce automation for even the most basic of activities. However, although there is some truth to this, technology can also do a lot of good to make us fitter and healthier. Here are a few instances of how you can do this.
It Motivates Us
Some technology encourages us to sit motionlessly and stare at a screen for hours on end, while others encourage us to get up and move about. This is the technology you want more of in your life. We are intentionally urged to do more and more steps every day by technology such as Fitbit and other wearable devices. We can even assess our fitness levels while working out and ensure that we burn the most calories. Meeting our fitness objectives easily and enabling our statistics to be uploaded online to compare with others and continue to improve is a terrific use of technology.
It Helps Us Eat Better
We all know we should eat more healthily, particularly if we want to lose weight (though eating healthily all the time is a good idea, even if weight loss is not your goal), but knowing and doing are two different things. Technology can bring those two things together, providing us with all of the knowledge we need to make the best healthy eating choices.
Take a look at the apps available and you’ll notice there are plenty that will tell you the nutritional worth of any food, as well as those that will offer you healthy recipes that won’t take you long to cook. You can simply become much healthier if you adjust your diet, and your smartphone or tablet can help you in doing so.
It Gives You Options
Technology has the potential to do a lot of good in the world, and one especially valuable feature of it is the ability to provide better alternatives to some of the most harmful and unhealthy things we can do to ourselves. Take, for example, smoking. Each cigarette is a new dosage of poison. They can cause cancer, lung difficulties, heart disease, and a variety of other disorders. As a result, smokers must quit as soon as possible. The problem is that because of the addictive nature of cigarettes, this is hard. But searching online and using your technology to find solutions will give you a plethora of information to help you stop this bad habit much more easily.
The same is true if there is something about yourself that you don’t feel confident about. Crooked teeth can be fixed by clear aligners, for example, and you only need to look online to find this information too.
It Stops You Feeling Lonely
Everyone is busy, and it’s easy to lose contact with friends when we don’t see them as often as we used to. Making time to see friends, however, becomes a lot easier when technology is involved. If you are unable to meet in person, a video chat could work well for you. If you want to meet face to face, you can use your online calendars to sync up and organize a dinner or day out.
Friendship is beneficial to our health since it reduces feelings of depression and anxiety, lowers blood pressure, and lowers our risk of getting heart disease; thus, the more we see our friends, the healthier we will be.
